A great variety of tests are used when needed to find underlying imbalances, causes for disease or any problematic symptoms.
Tests can also be used to assess individual needs related to micronutrients, food and even lifestyle related factors such as sleep and exercise.
Standard blood tests, for example a blood count, cholesterol profile, blood sugar levels, iron, vitamin D, homocysteine, inflammatory markers and more are often tested via the usual pathology labs.
Hair Mineral Analysis: Minerals and Toxic Elements/Metals
This is a very valuable and precise test done via a trustworthy Swiss laboratory. A small hair sample is sent to Switzerland and a full report is returned about 2 weeks later.
The report shows the level of toxicity, if any, of many important toxic elements, such as Mercury, Aluminium, Cadmium, Lead, Arsenic, Antimony and more.
It is very interesting to see how these results correlate with lifestyle and exposures longer term. Hester has worked with this test from the same laboratory for a long time and has extensive experience with it.
From those who work with gold jewellery to those living close to a parking lot to people who grew up in Hiroshima and Chernobyl, the hair shows what they were exposed to. Gold, car exhaust products and radioactive elements were found in those mentioned above.
In South Africa so far we have found 100% of those tested were positive for Aluminium toxicity, which was not the case for patients seen in Switzerland from all over the world. Aluminium is used very much in water purification in SA to reduce sedimentation. The aluminium used up to now in huge amounts is currently (2017) gradually being replaced by a new substance for the same purpose. Only time will tell what the impact of the change will be.
Aluminium can cause problems in the nervous system, such as nervous system hyper-excitability and also significantly interferes with Calcium metabolism, meaning it interferes with calcium's health-functions in the body.
The Hair Mineral Analysis also shows minerals and trace elements that are important for our health. These are shown as they should be - in balance and it is easy to see from the results if they are not in balance. The minerals include calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium and trace elements zinc, copper, manganese, chromium, vanadium, molybdenum, and many more.
Many more tests are available, including DNA tests, Gluten intolerance and coeliac tests, fatty acids (omega 3 and 6 ) tests, gut health tests and more.
More info on tests will follow in the near future.
