Winter is around the corner and unfortunately that means it’s also the start of cold and flu season. Here are 5 tips for soothing a sore throat and making sure it doesn’t linger or turn into a more serious infection. The important thing is to take action as soon as you feel the “scratchiness” starting in your throat.
- Gargle with salt water, with a drop or two of tea tree oil added.
- A pelargonium throat spray or Vinceel throat spray can help to ease the pain and fight the infection.
- If you have a very sore throat or your voice is affected, take Bromelain (high dose enzymes). This can significantly reduce pain and inflammation, while at the same time boosting the immune system (instead of suppressing it like over the counter pain killers do).
- If you suspect you might have a post nasal drip or blocked nose, use Euphorbium nasal spray or at least a saline nasal spray to stop the dripping on the throat.
- Avoid sugar, dairy and wheat, otherwise they increase mucous production and interfere with immune system functioning.
- To prevent a throat infection from turning into full blown flu take Echinacea/Olive leaf extract, vitamin C and zinc.
